Stabling Notes - 2010 Season The Broome Turf Club committee and management, look forward to welcoming trainers, jockeys and staff to Broome for the 2010. racing season. Once again our committee have elected not to charge for on-course stabling and accommodation as we are mindful of the costs involved in bringing horses to Broome and we appreciate your support. In recognition of this we seek your cooperation with a number of issues and ask that you ensure your staff and visitors respect other stables and assist with the following. This is an updated info sheet with a few changes to last year, could you please read it again and be sure to pass it on to your staff. - Stable Allocation: Stabling is restricted in Broome. Stalls are pre booked, please don't assume occupancy of any stalls other than those allocated to you. Please consult with manager Doug Milner, if extra stabling is required. Stalls are reserved for horses that will race in Broome. Trainers are asked not to bring horses that aren’t intended for racing in Broome and to remove any that are no longer able to race, as soon as possible.
- Beach Work: It is important for all concerned to understand that our use of the beach is not guaranteed. Please show respect for all other beach users and avoid conflict with other people particularly those with dogs. Please restrain language on the beach and near the road, this will assist in retaining beach access. We have gone to some length and expense to establish a satisfactory route to the beach and, for the future of Broome racing, we must insist that all horses are confined to this route, and access point. Please ensure that you and all staff are fully informed about Shire “Horses on the Beach” policy. See turf club notice board. All trainers now require to hold a current permit from the Shire to have access to the beach. Permit forms are available from Club office.
- Camping & Accommodation: Only available to those who are hands on with horses, and in fact should be licensed, others may be asked to move on.
- Dogs: Dog policy; one dog per stable, must not roam. Carnarvon race club have banned all dogs from their course, as they have had too many problems. Our stables are removed from the track and our club would prefer to rely on trainers to handle this issue. Dogs must be controlled at all times.
- Children: Not permitted to stay on course without prior agreement with committee, agreement will be conditional that children not be allowed to roam free.
- Electricity: Our electricity supply is limited. Please use gas cooking equipment whenever possible. Electric fry pans, toasters and kettles are big electricity users. Please don’t leave air conditioners running and please leave them off on race days. Please conserve power as much as possible, particularly on race days. Excessive use of electricity will result in power failures to all.
- ;Speed Limits: 10 kph or less throughout stable area, please avoid creating unnecessary dust and annoying other occupants. Please keep to designated roadways as we are establishing ground cover on other areas, for the benefit of all.
- Manure: Manure pits have been installed around the complex and are now in full use. The pits will be emptied twice weekly commencing 8am so please leave clear access to pits. Lime will be made available for use on the manure to reduce fly breeding. A wheelbarrow will be a must, as pits will be spread out. Skip bins are for rubbish only. Please don’t leave manure in heaps in bush or around trees, as it breeds flies and is detrimental against tree trunks and makes drippers hard to find.
- Rubbish: Please don’t put fish remains in the skip bins, apart from the smell it breeds flies. Leave it at sea, bury it, or use the council bin down the road.
- Trees: Please water trees by connecting retic pipe to tap and running for about an hour every few days but please don’t water on race days. Please check drippers occasionally, particularly on young trees. Most large trees no longer require dripper watering.
- Ablutions: Are cleaned prior to first arrivals and the club won’t be responsible for any further cleaning. For the benefit of all concerned, please keep clean at all times and arrange for regular cleaning.
- Additions to Stables: All stabling and facilities must conform to cyclone regulations. Please don’t make additions or renovations without consulting management.
- On Departure: Please leave area clean and remove all rubbish, if you don’t we have to.
- Sand: We have assessed stable sand and topped up where necessary. Trainers requiring any more sand can purchase from Broomecrete 91921753 or McCorry Brown 91921125.
- Feed: Landmark and Broome Stockyards carry some feed and Milne Feeds, sponsors of ‘Horse of the Year’, will assist if approached early.
- Racetrack Fast Work: The track will be open for fast work with medical officer supervision on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 6.00am and 8.30am. Trackwork supervisor/medical officer is required to be present for all fast work, which is uninsured outside the above hours. Trainers are advised to restrict fast work to supervised hours.
- Access to the track is not permitted prior to 6am, as it is dark and there is no insurance cover until then. On all days except race days, the track will be available until 10am, unless notice is given that it is closed for maintenance work. The track will be harrowed at approximately 10am daily. To protect the racing pad for the entire season all track work must be conducted a minimum of three horses off the rail.
The track will be closed on race day mornings at 8.00am. - RWWA Stable Location: All trainers are required to register Broome as their training base, prior to arriving on course. A form for this purpose has been enclosed, please complete this and forward to RWWA before departing for Broome. Please fax forms to 9445 9312 attention David Hunter or post to him at 14 Hasler Rd, Osborne Park, 6017.
- Mail; please have mail sent to c/- Post Office, Broome, 6725, and collect it yourself. Please don’t have it sent to the turf club post box.
